mission:
The Improving Diversity in Optometric Careers is an intensive three-day program for eligible under-represented high school and college students.
The camp will help students explore optometric careers through hands-on experiences and aims at increasing the number of African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American optometrists.
curriculum:
I-DOC is administered by the faculty, staff, alumni, and students of The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Our expert team will serve as mentors and provide instruction in eye anatomy, eye diseases, vision, and related areas. Participants will learn basic components of an eye exam, find out about career options within optometry, understand the need for minority optometrists, realize the income-earning potential and satisfaction associated with a career in optometry, and determine requirements for becoming an optometrist. Students will also shadow local optometrists and/ or optometry students.
