Mission:
The IDOL Program is a three-day program to interest under-represented students in an optometry career. During the program, students will learn about eyes and vision, observe optometry doctors and students, learn about career options in optometry, find out about satisfaction and income-earning potential of an optometric career, and examine the needs of minority optometrists.
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants are minority undergraduate students with interest in an optometric career. The most successful applicants will exhibit a competitive grade point average and interest in optometry.
Financial Assistance:
There are no fees required for the program. The three most qualified out-of-state applicants will receive up to $500 reimbursement for airline tickets and free hotel accommodations from July 27 until July 31. Local participants will receive free parking passes. Lunches will be provided for all participants.
Curriculum:
The curriculum will take place July 28-30 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. A Sample Schedule of the IDOL Program is available and can provide more detail on the curriculum.
