Degrees cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude
Students
who have achieved academic distinction in their professional
studies may be eligible to receive the Doctor of Optometry
degree cum laude, magna
cum laude, or summa cum laude. The general standards for awarding these
degrees are described in the section Graduation with honors.
Awards
The following awards are generally announced and presented
each Spring Quarter before commencement exercises:
Beta Sigma Kappa Silver Medal
This medal is awarded each year to the member of the graduating
class who has achieved the highest cumulative point-hour
ratio on work completed in the College of Optometry.
James Bing Memorial Award
The Bing Memorial Award was established by the Ohio State
Optometric Association to recognize a student for outstanding
work in visual perception. Students who compete for the prize
must submit a paper describing an original study related
to visual perception.
Vincent J. Ellerbrock Memorial Award
This award is supported by an endowment fund established
by his friends and family. It is presented to a senior student
in optometry who has published a paper on original research
in physiological optics or optometry.
