What is Dry Eye?
Over 12 million americans have dry eye. It is one of the most common complaints heard by eye doctors. The term dry eye denotes an abnormality of the precorneal tear film. Symptoms can include a persistent gritty, uncomfortable, dry, burning and scratchy sensation of the eyes. This can occur in patients wearing or not wearing contact lenses.
What is Sjögren’s Disease?
One of the characteristic symptoms of this disease is dry eye. Sjögren’s Disease is an autoimmune disorder involving attacks on the moisture producing glands of the body by the white blood cells.
What is Contact Lens Induced Dry Eye?
Up to 50% of patients wearing contact lenses experience dryness, discomfort, and/or reduced comfortable lens wearing time, which can lead to contact lens discontinuation.
