Eligibility Criteria:
- Attainment of the O.D. degree from a school or college of optometry accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) of the American Optometric Association.
- Successful completion of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO)
Before February 1, applicants should have on file with the Residency Director (Dr. Robert Newcomb) at The Ohio State University College of Optometry:
- a letter of application and a current curriculum vitae (CV);
- the applicant's ORMS Application form;
- transcripts of work completed in professional school;
- NBEO transcripts of completed sections;
- letters of recommendation from three faculty closely acquainted with the applicant's clinical proficiency.
Before February 1, submit residency application to ORMS.

When application materials are on file with the program director, the applicant should arrange a site visit to the appropriate residency facility.
Note: Applicants for the Cleveland VAMC residency program will be contacted to schedule their interviews by the Cleveland VAMC residency supervisor. Interviews for the Cleveland program will be conducted on certain dates as arranged by program personnel.
Before the last Friday in February, submit an Applicant Matching Form to ORMS. Submitting this form signifies your agreement to accept the rules of the match and complete the program.
On or before March 15, applicants and program supervisors are notified of binding matches by ORMS.
Before June 15, accepted applicants should forward to the program director (Dr. Robert Newcomb) at The Ohio State University College of Optometry:
- evidence of the award of the OD degree from an accredited school or college of optometry.
Transcripts showing successful completion of the NBEO examination, and - evidence of intent to take the State Board of Optometry licensing examination in the state in which residency program will be completed.
Successful completion of the program requires obtaining a state optometry license.
