2024 Optometry Online Continuing Education Course Listing

The Ohio State University College of Optometry is offering a total of eight hours of online continuing education. Once successfully enrolled for one of our asynchronous online lectures, you have 30 days to complete the course. To receive Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE) Accredited CE credit, a short quiz must be completed at the end of these non-live lectures (online) to verify attendance.

 

Access to Care, a Public Health Perspective

This course will explore how and why optometrists are suited to provide increased access to care. We will also discuss several factors that are leading to an increased demand for care, while exploring the workforce demographics as they currently exist.

Everything You Need to Know About the Eclipse…Plus Some More

This course will discuss the common sources of UV, visible, and IR radiation and the acute and chronic ocular issues that can develop with exposures to these sources. A rare event that exposes individuals to all three of these portions of the electromagnetic spectrum is a solar eclipse – which is going to occur in Ohio on April 8, 2024! The course will discuss tips that can be shared with your patients for safe eclipse viewing and how to recognize solar retinitis or solar retinopathy.

Introduction to Optical Coherence Tomography

This lecture will review the basic principle of the technique, the reasons why it is so powerful and its advantages over other modalities such as fundus cameras and confocal laser scanning ophthalmoscopes, the state-of-the-art in commercial clinical instrumentation (including OCT angiography) and conclude with what is being developed in the research arena.

Detecting Glaucoma: A Review

This discussion will review the epidemiology of glaucoma and the best practices to diagnose the disease in an optometric setting, including a review of tonometry, optical coherence tomography, and perimetry.

Macular Hole Review

This lecture will review the funduscopic appearance and optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings of the early or precursor stages of macular hole (vitreomacular adhesion and vitreomacular traction), the stages of full thickness macular hole, and non-full thickness macular holes will be described.
