Q&A
What brought you to the College of Optometry?
I’ve always enjoyed being an optician, and one of the best parts of my jobs in the past was training new opticians. I saw a job posting for “Instructing Optician,” and I got excited about the opportunity. I loved the idea of a position that included a mix of patient care and teaching opticianry.
Describe your typical day at work.
Most of my day is dedicated to supervising students in their rotations in the Eyewear Gallery. I help teach them how to aid patients in selecting frames and lens options, and how to adjust and troubleshoot glasses. I also get to work directly with patients, and I work with the labs to ensure orders are being fulfilled accurately and timely.
What brings you the most joy in your work?
I get to spend every day with fantastic coworkers and interns! The camaraderie at the College of Optometry makes my days feel short. It’s truly a fun and exciting job.
What do you do for fun outside of work?
I sing in my church choir and volunteer for Knights of Columbus (we’re the guys who cook for the fish fry or pancake breakfast at church). I also like cycling, and simply spending time with my wife and kids.
What is your go-to Columbus/neighborhood eatery?
La Fogata in Pickerington. It’s a great family-friendly Mexican restaurant. They have a nice patio and fast service, and food my whole family can agree on!
