Q&A
What brought you to the College of Optometry?
My journey to the College of Optometry started with a simple goal—I wanted to work for the University that shaped my own education. As a proud Buckeye and graduate, joining the college felt like the perfect way to give back to a place that means so much to me. While practicing in private optometry, I learned about an opening and was thrilled to discover it involved working with low vision patients. It felt like coming full circle, as I had spent the first six years of my career collaborating with students and mobility instructors at the Ohio State School for the Blind. This role allows me to continue making a tangible impact in the lives of those navigating vision loss.

Describe your typical day at work or your role.
Every day, I have the privilege of working with individuals seeking solutions to help them function better despite vision loss. Since each patient's needs are unique, the support we provide varies—from assisting doctors in prescribing devices to connecting patients with essential services or guiding them through the BMV process. I also help facilitate referrals, ensuring patients receive the care they need. It's a dynamic role, and no two days are ever quite the same!
What brings you the most joy in your work?
Few moments are more rewarding than getting a call from a patient letting us know they were able to obtain their driver’s license. For some, it’s as simple as passing the vision exam after we conduct a thorough assessment. For others, it’s an extensive process requiring specialized training and testing. Regardless of the journey, seeing their joy and newfound independence is incredibly fulfilling.
What advice would you give to a new employee at the college?
Take the time to get to know your colleagues! The College of Optometry is a truly special place, filled with compassionate and dedicated professionals. It’s a collaborative environment, and building strong connections will make your experience even more rewarding.
Also, keep an open mind and never stop learning. Whether it's soaking up wisdom from your coworkers, gaining insights from patients, or keeping up with advancements in the field, there's always something new to discover. Embrace the process, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to dive in!
What do you do for fun outside of work?
I am a devoted grandmother! My sweet, energetic four-year-old keeps me laughing with her endless antics—whether it’s her dramatic storytelling, goofy dances, or our mini concerts in the car. Watching the world through her eyes is pure magic. When I’m not soaking up time with her, you’ll often find me lost in the pages of a great book—I’m an avid reader through and through.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
If I won the lottery, I’d retire early and take my family on the ultimate road trip. First stop? The East Coast, where I’d soak up the sun, feel the sand between my toes, and enjoy the rhythm of the waves. I’d explore charming beach towns, find the best spots for fresh fish dishes, and take my time unwinding by the water.
From there, we’d keep chasing coastlines, visiting beautiful beaches across the country, and enjoying long, carefree days together. More than anything, it’d be about making memories—laughing, relaxing, and letting the ocean set the pace.
