Q&A
What brought you to the College of Optometry?
After working for 20 years as a social worker, I was looking for a position in a different field. My oldest son had participated in Dr. Jeff Walline’s ACHIEVE Study, so I was somewhat familiar with the role of a research coordinator and applied for a position working with Drs. Kelly and Jason Nichols.
Describe your typical day at work or describe your position/role.
I have been a clinical research coordinator throughout my time at the college, first on the industry team and then on the chair’s grant for the NEI funded Bifocal Lenses In Nearsighted Kids (BLINK) studies. I am currently the Study Coordinator for the Data Analysis and Coordination Center (DCAC) for the recently NEI funded Delaying the Onset of Nearsightedness Until Treatment (DONUT) Study. I am also the Program Coordinator for the Vision Science Graduate Program. Given the various responsibilities associated with each of these roles there is not such thing as a “typical day."
What advice would you give to a new employee at the college?
Use your coworkers as resources. Don’t be afraid to ask for help navigating all the nuances that are present at a major university like The Ohio State University.
What do you do for fun outside of work?
My Kitchen Aid Mixer gets a workout baking treats for family and coworkers, I am an avid reader, and I enjoy snuggling with our two loveable pups, Bella and Eddie.
What was your first job?
I worked at Wayne’s, a mom-and-pop walk-up ice cream and sandwich shop in high school.
