Q&A

What brought you to the College of Optometry?

An employee at the college referred me to The Ohio State University College of Optometry; she informed me that it would present career growth and great opportunities.

Describe your typical day at work or describe your position/role.

I specialize in billing all things BWC (Bureau of Workers' Compensation) and VSP (Vision Service Plan). On any given day, I might go from billing claims, discussing insurance and statements with patients to speaking with attorneys and MCOs (Managed Care Organizations) regarding the needs of our patients. I must say that my 25-year background as a licensed dispensing optician (16 of which were in our very own Eyewear Gallery) helps me greatly in the billing department, as I am able to better explain and justify the requests for certain materials and services. Explaining the needs of our patients in a cohesive manner can make a world of difference in line items being approved.

What brings you the most joy in your work?

I absolutely love to see claims get paid. Paid claims mean that the College has gotten reimbursed for materials and services rendered, and that is something that we can all appreciate! vWhat advice would you give to a new employee at the college? Take things day by day and step by step; the experience, knowledge and routines will come.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

I love spending time with my two grandchildren! I have a granddaughter aged four and a grandson as a new addition this past April.

What is your go-to Columbus/neighborhood eatery?

I love Mozart’s at 4784 North High Street. Mozart’s has a welcoming feel every time I go and has been part of the Columbus community for over 30 years! The owners Anand and Doris Saha work as a team with Anand helping wherever he is needed and Doris specializes in all the Austrian dessert specialty items.

Which letter in the iconic O-H-I-O photo op pose do you prefer to be and why?

The O because it reminds me of many of OSU’s character traits: opportunity, optimistic, outgoing, open to cutting edge education and technology, original, objective, outstanding, obliging and very openhearted.
