Graduate Program

The Ohio State University Graduate Program in Vision Science offers Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in a broad range of basic and clinical research opportunities, with an emphasis on patient-based research. 

Information about the curriculum, graduate faculty, financial support, and the application process can be found on this website. Applicants should apply to the Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy program depending on the desired degree. A Master’s degree is not required to apply to the PhD program. Master’s students can request permission to enroll in the PhD program after the completion of the first year of the Master’s program should they wish to further their education. 

Purpose

The purpose of The Ohio State University College of Optometry Graduate Program in Vision Science is to:

  1. develop successful, independent vision scientists,
  2. train future educators, and
  3. generate future leaders.

Funding

The availability of financial support is determined as part of the admissions process. In most cases, we provide Graduate Teaching Associate or Graduate Research Associate positions that pay all tuition, fees, insurance, and a stipend. You would be notified of the availability of a GTA or GRA position at the time of the admission decision. These positions are competitive and depend on the number of applications we receive and the number of positions available.
