Application Process
Eligibility Criteria:
- Attainment of the OD degree from a school or college of optometry accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) of the American Optometric Association.
- Successful completion of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO)
Before February 1, applicants should have on file with the Residency Site Coordinator:
- a letter of application and a current curriculum vitae (CV);
- the applicant's OR Match application form;
- transcripts of work completed in professional school;
- NBEO transcripts of completed sections;
- letters of recommendation from three faculty closely acquainted with the applicant's clinical proficiency.
Before February 15, submit residency application to OR Match.
After the full application has been received, the site Residency Coordinator will reach out to the applicant to schedules interviews.
Before the last Friday in February, submit an Applicant Matching Form to OR Match. Submitting this form signifies your agreement to accept the rules of the match and complete the program.
On or before March 15, applicants and Residency Site Coordinators are notified of binding matches by OR Match.
Before June 15, accepted applicants should forward to the Residency Director (Dr. Dawn Goedde) at The Ohio State University College of Optometry:
- evidence of the award of the OD degree from an accredited school or college of optometry.
- Transcripts showing successful completion of the NBEO examination, and
- evidence of intent to take the State Board of Optometry licensing examination in the state in which residency program will be completed.
Successful completion of the program requires obtaining a state optometry license.
All applicants will be evaluated without regard to gender, race, creed, national origin, or non-disqualifying physical disabilities.
