President's Message
Dear BuckEYE Alumni,
I am honored to write you today as the President of The Ohio State University College of Optometry Alumni Society. I am a Canton, Ohio native who now lives in Denver, Colorado, but I continue to root for the Buckeyes! In practice, I am continually reminded of the invaluable connections and experiences that have shaped my optometric journey.
Reflecting on my time at Ohio State, the College of Optometry played a pivotal role in fostering connections that have profoundly influenced my career trajectory. The community of excellent faculty, fellow students, and alumni provided a supportive environment that has stimulated my professional growth, collaboration, and networking opportunities.
As alumni, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to pay forward the invaluable support and mentorship we received during our formative years. Recently, alumni, including members of our College of Optometry Alumni Board, conducted virtual mentoring meetings with first-year optometry students. These conversations served as an opportunity to connect with our future colleagues, share our experiences at Ohio State, provide our clinical stories, and answer questions about our individual optometric journeys.
During my discussions, I shared with the students the deep appreciation I have for the faculty and staff at the college, whose support and encouragement provide the foundation for our students to be successful graduates. Additionally, I spoke of the enduring legacy of my time at Ohio State being the lifelong bonds formed with members of my class and fellow students during group study sessions, in clinic, and during social activities during my four years in Columbus.
It has been truly inspiring to hear firsthand about the enthusiasm and dedication these first-year students bring to their studies and future careers. Their passion for optometry and eagerness to learn are truly inspiring. The excellent reputation of The Ohio State University College of Optometry and mentorship provided by our esteemed faculty and alumni network continues to attract the brightest and best students. The guidance, advice, and encouragement offered by alumni serve to bolster their confidence, broaden their horizons, and fuel their ambitions. Furthermore, this will strengthen our profession for many years to come.
Together, let us embody the spirit of “Buckeye for Life” as we continue our journey of serving our patients and our profession.
