Adult-Onset Strabismus Diagnosis and Management

This evidence-based course reviews the most common causes of new strabismus in adults and how to formulate a differential diagnosis. It will also cover relevant clinical testing and treatment options. A case presentation at the end will offer an opportunity to apply new concepts.

Compliance, Hygiene, and Complications: Oh My! How to Keep Contact Lens Bugs at Bay

This lecture will discuss evidence-based clinical practices and recommendations that minimize infectious and inflammatory contact lens-associated complications. The discussion will include disinfection and cleaning systems, storage cases, and lens accessories for both soft and hard contact lenses. This lecture will briefly review some of the most common contact lens-associated complications associated with poor lens care. Finally, we will cover recommendations for handling and storage of multi-patient use diagnostic contact lenses.

Diagnosis and Management of Uveitis for the Optometrist

Uveitis is a significant cause of blindness globally, and can have significant underlying systemic associations. This course will focus on the classification, management, and clinical findings affiliated with uveitis, with a specific focus on anterior uveitis.

Ocular Effects of Nutrition and Exercise

This course will review how oxidative stress manifests in the eyes as ocular disease. It will review the nutrients that are essential in combating oxidative stress and how they primarily can be obtained through diet. It will touch on the role of supplements, their indications, and the types of supplements on the market. Lastly, the early research findings on the benefits of exercise on the eye will be discussed.

Stress Management: The Role of Biomechanics in Ocular Disease

This course will explore how ocular biomechanics can be used in the clinic to detect and to follow glaucoma and keratoconus.

Update on Topical Glaucoma Medications

This course will provide an update on newly approved topical medications for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Emphasis will be placed on each drug’s indications, contra-indications, adverse effects, efficacy, and cost.

Visual Fields and Falls

In low vision rehabilitation, visual field measurement outside of standards automated perimetry protocols can provide valuable data about a patient’s condition. This knowledge can help inform decisions about safe travel as well as fall risk. This presentation covers principles of semi-automated kinetic perimetry, case examples of patients with complex visual field considerations, and a basic review of falls prevention from a visual standpoint.
