Donald Mutti

Dr. Donald Mutti received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1982 from the School of Optometry at the University of California Berkeley. Following graduation, Dr. Mutti worked for CooperVision Ophthalmic Products, conducting in-house clinical research evaluating new contact lens designs and products. He co-holds a patent in soft contact lens design. He returned to Berkeley in 1988 as a National Eye Institute Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, receiving his PhD in 1992. Dr. Mutti is currently the E.F. Wildermuth Foundation Professor in Optometry at The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He is a co-investigator with Dr. Karla Zadnik on the Collaborative Longitudinal Evaluation of Ethnicity and Refractive Error (CLEERE) Study, a National Eye Institute funded study of normal eye growth and risk factors for myopic refractive error now in its twentieth year. Dr. Mutti was also the Principal Investigator of the Berkeley Infant Biometry (BIBS) study, an eight year NEI-funded investigation of ocular component development and emmetropization in infancy. Dr. Mutti is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, previously serving on the Research and Communications committees, currently serving on the AAO Awards Committee. He received the Borish Award from the Academy in 1996, the Glenn A. Fry Award from the American Optometric Foundation in 2006, the Graduate Teaching Award in 2007 and 2010 from the Graduate Organization in Vision Science, and the Herbert G. Mote Award for distinguished teaching in 2009 and in 2011 from the College's fraternity, Epsilon Psi Epsilon. Dr. Mutti was the Alumnus of the Year of the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 2011. Dr. Mutti is also a silver Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
