Biographical narrative

Pierce received the Doctor of Optometry degree in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree in Physiological Optics in 1994, both from The Ohio State University. He is currently Professor of Clinical Optometry at the College of Optometry. Dr. Pierce teaches courses in Basic Clinical Procedures to both first and second year students. He also staffs the Primary Vision Care Service. In addition, he serves on the Admissions Committee and the Faculty Advisory Committee. He also serves on the board of the College of Optometry Alumni Society and is a contributing editor of the BuckEye alumni magazine. He is the faculty advisor to Optometry Student Council and Epsilon Psi Epsilon Professional Fraternity, and is vice chair of the Epsilon Psi Epsilon Alumni Board.
Current research is in contact lenses to slow the progression of myopia, and in treatment of convergence insufficiency. Dr. Pierce has served on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Optometric Association from 2003 - 2011, and is a past President of the Ohio Optometric Association. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). He has presented several times at both the ARVO and Academy annual meetings. Dr. Pierce also serves as a consultant to the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education. In September, 2000, he traveled to Maracaibo, Venezuela with Student Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity (SVOSH) to provide eye care to underprivileged residents.
