Biographical narrative
Gregory J. Nixon received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa in 1991 prior to his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1996. After graduation, he joined the auxiliary faculty at his optometry alma mater where he has held numerous clinical, teaching, and administrative assignments. Currently, he holds the position of Associate Dean for Clinical Services and Professor of Clinical Optometry. His primary teaching and clinical interests are in ocular pharmacology, ocular disease, and the management of glaucoma. Dr. Nixon’s teaching accomplishments have resulted in him being named the recipient of The Ohio State University Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2019, the Outstanding Clinical Instructor of the Year Award in 1998, the Herbert G. Mote Award winner in 2008, 2014, & 2016 for excellence in optometric teaching, and the AOSA Faculty Member of the Year Award in 2009.
Dr. Nixon is an active member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society and the Ohio Optometric Association where he is a member of the EastWest Eye Conference Education committee. His work on behalf of the organization has earned him recognition as an OOA Special Merit Award winner in 1999, 2005 and 2006 and as the Ohio Optometric Association Young O.D. of the Year in 2000. He has served as a trustee of the Central Ohio Optometric Association, a member of the Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators, and as a Co-Investigator for the Collaborative Longitudinal Evaluation of Keratoconus (CLEK) Study. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry where he serves as the college faculty liaison and a member of the Lectures and Workshops Committee.
