Biographical narrative

Gregory J. Nixon received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa in 1991 prior to his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1996. After graduation, he joined the auxiliary faculty at his optometry alma mater where he has held numerous clinical, teaching, and administrative assignments. Currently, he holds the position of Associate Professor of Clinical Optometry and teaches courses in clinical ocular pharmacology and the management of glaucoma. In addition, he serves as the college Extern Coordinator for the Ocular Disease, Advanced Practice, and Primary Care externship programs and directs the rotation assignments of 4th year students to 65 extern sites in 14 different states. Dr. Nixon’s teaching accomplishments have resulted in him being named the Outstanding Clinical Instructor of the Year Award in 1998, the Herbert G. Mote Award winner in 2008 for excellence in optometric teaching, and the AOSA Faculty Member of the Year Award in 2009.

Dr. Nixon is a partner at Professional VisionCare in Westerville and Johnstown, OH where he is recognized for his work with advanced contact lens fitting and ocular disease management. He served as the clinical columns editor for Contact Lens Spectrum from 2008-2009 and continues to be a regular contributing columnist. Dr. Nixon is an active member of the Ohio Optometric Association where he is co-chair of the legislative committee and member of the EastWest Eye Conference Education committee. His work on behalf of the organization has earned him recognition as an OOA Special Merit Award winner in 1999, 2005 and 2006 and as the Ohio Optometric Association Young O.D. of the Year in 2000. He has served as a trustee of the Central Ohio Optometric Association, a member of the Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators, and as a Co-Investigator for the Collaborative Longitudinal Evaluation of Keratoconus (CLEK) Study. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
