Shihij's optometry experience
When she first visited Ohio State Optometry during a summer program, Shihij was confident both that she wanted to pursue optometry and Ohio State. Working as an optician during her first year of classes, her life was changed when she dispensed glasses to a young girl who was able to see clearly for the first time.

Shihij: The I-DOC program was awesome. I remember that was one of the places where I met a bunch of faculty and kind of got to know how OSU Optometry works.
I was pretty sure I wanted to be an optometrist at that time, but I-DOC kind of gave me a good push into loving Ohio State specifically.
I was an optician, which isn't the first job that a lot of students have, and I remember my first pair I dispensed to a little girl, and seeing her face light up because she could see for the first time.
That was literally life-changing, and that's when I knew I wanted to be an optometrist.
I want to tell everybody who's applying to be confident in yourself. You are better than you think, smarter than you think, stronger than you think.
And Ohio State is lucky to have you, and you're lucky to be here.
It's a great school, it's a little campus of Optometry inside just a giant campus and an even bigger city.
And so you really can't go wrong; you don't just get the small school experience, but you also have so many other things, football games, we have our Optometry fraternity, and there's just so much fun you can have in Columbus.
And so I think if you just go with your gut, if you ask the right questions when you're interviewing, make sure that Columbus and Ohio State is a good fit for you, I think your gut will lead you right back here.
