Angela Brown receives NIH funding for newborn vision test development
Dr. Angela Brown, professor of optometry at The Ohio State University, received a $600,000 two-year National Institutes of Health (NIH) award to fund her project, Newborn infant vision test.
This funding will allow Dr. Brown to continue the development of tests of newborn visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. This new NIH award funds their work to establish age norms in full-term and preterm infants, reliability of these new tests, the clinical utility of the tests, and the best method to train examiners.
The long-term goal of this research is the universal screening of infant vision, which she hopes leads to better treatment for visual disorders.
