Ohio State University College of Optometry Vision Science PhD students Rebecca Deffler (OD, MS’19), Erica Shelton (OD/MS’18), and Marielle Reidy (OD/MS’19), are among 15 recipients of 2022 American Academy of Optometry Foundation William C. Ezell Fellowships. Dr. Deffler is a PhD student advised by Dr. Bradley Dougherty and has been awarded the American Academy of Optometry Foundation Ezell Fellowship. Dr. Shelton is a PhD student advised by Dr. Dean VanNasdale and has been awarded the John N. Schoen Ezell Fellowship. Dr. Reidy is a PhD student advised by Dr. Don Mutti and has been awarded the Mike Daley / Essilor Ezell Fellowship.

The Ezell Fellowship is the most prestigious award given by the American Academy of Optometry Foundation to students who are pursuing vision science graduate degrees in optometry. The award helps make graduate stipends easier to manage financially, and it automatically places the student among luminaries of the profession.

Ezell Fellowship funding is provided by leading optometric companies, private endowments, and other generous business organizations that represent most sectors of the industry.
